WHY BUY FROM BLUE PINE WOODWARE?
Who we are We
We are a small custom woodworking shop located in Prince George BC and we specialize in producing a wide range of wood products. My wife, Betty and I operate the shop together and do employ some part time help. We have been producing various wood products for over 30 years. We have been located in Prince George for about 17 years.
What we do
We produce products for the wine industry, urns for the funeral industry and many custom products for gift shops BC Tourism and a number of BC Government offices. Our company has also been awarded an Olympic permit for some very specific items. Our goal is to produce all of our products using only environmentally sustainable practices including low voc, waterborne finishes. We do not use pressurized spray cans as many are an environmental disaster. We have substantially invested in modern woodworking machinery and spray finishing equipment and continually strive for better quality fits and finishes and all assembly is done by hand. As in most businesses there is considerable competition some of whom were employed by Blue Pine Woodware only to leave and start on their own, however if you closely examine some of these products it will become clear why we have had a measure of success.
Because we use only solid woods for all of our products, no two pieces are alike and in the case of blue pine, uniquely stained by nature. When orders call for finished products we apply only clear finishes and minimum three coats, hand sanded between coats. Due to our small size we are able to quickly change over from product to product for small orders without extra charges.

What is Blue Pine
Much has been said about Blue Pine and how it has destroyed an area of more than five times the size of Vancouver Island.
Let's take a look at the end cut of a Lodge Pole Pine tree. In the first photo to the left, a ballpoint pen indicates the depth of the blue wood about 2 1/2" into the sapwood of the tree, just under the bark. Now let's take a look at the beetle, this little varmint is 1/4" long; about the length of a grain of rice.
There are thousands of these beetles that attack each tree. They burrow through the bark and bore just under the bark small granaries in which they lay their brood.
Micro-organisms such as the blue stain fungus, Ceratocystis SPP, are introduced into the trees by the beetles. The combination of the gallery construction and the fungal infection overcome the trees defense systems, while providing nutrients for the developing brood.
The blue stain causes rapid degradation of the wood and therefore a decrease in timber value. The entire process takes about one year. Our products are constructed from wood harvest from beetle-killed pine.
